1835/36 - Adam Ritchey staked a claim in the area and became the first white settler in Washington County, Iowa. Mr. Ritchey founded the first church, the Seceder Church.
1837/1838 - Matthew Moorhead helped organize the Methodist Episcopal Church.
July 4, 1839 - Nealtown (name of Crawfordsville prior to 1844) was established, named for Walker, Joseph and Robert Neal (all brothers)

1844 - Nealtown changed to Crawfordsville to honor Dr. Isaac Crawford who had come from Ohio.
February 23, 1854 - Representatives of several organizations met in Crawfordsville to oppose the extension of slavery. This convention was held at the old Seceder Church. In later years (1858) this church would become United Presbyterian Church, today this is the same site where the United Church of Crawfordsville stands.
This meeting is seen as the formation of the Republican Party, which include representatives of the Liberty Party, The Free Soilers, and other organiations who were bitter opponents to slavery.
Edward Howe was the chairman of the Resolutions Committee. The committee meeting(s) took place at the "House of All Nations" and was named such because nearly everyone in town had lived there at one time or another.
The House of All Nations was a station site for the underground railway and concealed runaway slaves by day and then they were driven on to Columbus City or Iowa City at night.
The House itself was built by Samuel Rankin in 1851. It was the largest house in town and for many years was a hotel, which also included a restaurant in later years. In 1912, the building was torn down and the Peoples Savings Bank now rests on that property.
1879-1880 - The railroad linking Burlington and Washington was constructed.
1891 - Crawfordsville became incorporated. H. Manners served as the town's first mayor.
1894 - First issue of the newspaper "Crawfordsville Imprint"
1900-1901 - First telephones were installed throughout the town.
1903 - Crawfordsville is the second school system in Iowa to consolidate.
1930 - Highway #218 was paved through town.
